Native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and Dutch. Master's degree in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language and a Master's in English Language & Literature — plus specialized courses in Spanish for Business.

They say that doctors make the worst patients; well, the same goes for teachers — we're not good students. I have extensive experience of teaching and examining English but have always struggled to learn Spanish. It has taken me many years to find a teacher like Elvira. For me, her most important qualities are her ability to keep the classes flexible (if I have a query we can go off at a tangent to resolve it) and her knowledge of the grammar of other languages. I'm a (very) mature student and can't just be told something, I need to understand how and why, being able to discuss the mechanics of the language and compare Spanish with English grammar has been a great help. The reason I recommend Elvira to friends is that she doesn't just teach well, but does so in a genuinely enjoyable way. It's wonderful to have lessons with someone you look forward to seeing and simply like as a person. I've now been taking lessons for over a year, and where I could barely string a sentence together at the start, we now discuss topics in Spanish ranging from politics to daily life and much more. I'm not exactly a model homework student, but after a year I can hold fluent conversations — mostly thanks to Elvira.
