Why Elvi
I lived outside Spain for many years, so I know what it means to find your way in another language, another culture and another way of doing things.
I’ve felt small in another language too: knowing exactly what I wanted to say but not finding the words, unable to show who I really am — the way I can in my own language. I know how it feels.
That’s why my lessons aren’t only about learning Spanish. They’re about using it with confidence in your real life.
Master's in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language and a degree in English Philology (Master's level). Over twelve years lecturing at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, and teaching at the Instituto Cervantes, where I trained as a DELE examiner.

For residency, Spanish citizenship, study or work: the DELE is the official Spanish-language diploma awarded by the Instituto Cervantes. I trained as a DELE examiner, so I know the exam from the inside and can prepare you for every level, from A1 to C2.

I’m from Spain and have been teaching Spanish for 25 years, more than twelve of them at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht — where I also lectured in Intercultural Communication — and at the Instituto Cervantes.

They say that doctors make the worst patients; well, the same goes for teachers — we're not good students. I have extensive experience of teaching and examining English but have always struggled to learn Spanish. It has taken me many years to find a teacher like Elvira. For me, her most important qualities are her ability to keep the classes flexible (if I have a query we can go off at a tangent to resolve it) and her knowledge of the grammar of other languages. I'm a (very) mature student and can't just be told something, I need to understand how and why, being able to discuss the mechanics of the language and compare Spanish with English grammar has been a great help. I have been studying Spanish for many years but now finally I am totally confident with speaking it thanks to Elvira.

The reason I recommend Elvira to friends is that she doesn't just teach well, but does so in a genuinely enjoyable way. It's wonderful to have lessons with someone you look forward to seeing and simply like as a person. I've now been taking lessons for over a year, and where I could barely string a sentence together at the start, we now discuss topics in Spanish ranging from politics to daily life and much more. I'm not exactly a model homework student, but after a year I can hold fluent conversations — mostly thanks to Elvira.

I have been living in Spain for several years now. During this time, and even before, while I was still living in the Netherlands, I tried on several occasions to find a Spanish teacher who could truly adapt to my needs. I often found that teachers talked a lot themselves but struggled to adjust to my level, pace and way of learning. As a result, I would get bored, lose motivation and zone out during lessons.
But Elvira, wow! She is truly on another level. I have never before encountered someone who combines such a beautiful heart with exactly the right skills to teach. She is warm, caring and encouraging, with an incredible ability to motivate without creating pressure.
Her knowledge of different languages is remarkable. She knows exactly how to explain something when I get stuck or do not understand, and she adapts every lesson perfectly to my level and pace. In a remarkably short time, she helped me develop the confidence and skills to speak, write and read Spanish, and made it feel like a language that is becoming second nature to me.
